Shop Policies

We love being able to service your bike in a timely fashion! In order to do so, we have some policies in place to keep Basic Cycles running smoothly. By allowing Basic Cycles to service your bike, owners are hereby held under the policies set-forth.

Storage

Bikes left unclaimed after their completion notification are subject to a $1.20/day storage fee. While we’re happy to work with your schedule to the best of our abilities, any bikes left unclaimed after 30 days will be considered abandoned and will be disposed of at the discretion of Basic Cycles.

Bikes that have not been checked-in or do not have a claim tag will be disposed of immediately. We have a lot of bikes to keep up with, so please be sure to have it checked-in with an employee.


Appointments

We prefer appointments, which can be made by calling, texting or emailing us ahead of time or through our contact form! Scheduled drop-offs allow us to provide a high standard of quality and the quickest turnaround. Unscheduled drop-offs may be subject to a minimum $54 repair charge.

Pick-Up + Delivery

We offer free pick-up and delivery within Charlottesville City limits for “Standard Tuneup” level repairs or above.
For smaller service calls add a $10 pick-up/delivery fee.
Just mention you’re interested in free pick-up when you schedule your appointment request!

Rush Jobs

No problem! We offer a quicker turnaround with our Rush Job minimum $20 prepaid deposit. Contact us with your timeline and the services requested and we’ll give you an estimate!

Down-Payments, Deposits + Up-Charges

Some jobs may require a deposit, to be determined at Basic Cycles’ sole discretion. This may apply to bikes we feel are cost/value prohibitive. This specifically includes certain brands such as: Huffy, Pacific, GMC, Roadmaster or online/”box” bikes. We will do our best to oblige your requests!

We’re also happy to use parts that you provide, but they may be subject to additional labor charges. Using parts from unverified sources can require longer set-up times and management times. Basic Cycles’ warranties may also be affected.


Free Follow-Ups

We offer free follow-up appointments for our tune-up repair services to make sure everything is still running smoothly. These must be scheduled via appointment within 30 days of initial service completion. After 30 days, our follow-up warranty obligation may start to wane.

Damage + Liability

Basic Cycles assumes no responsibility or liability for any damage, perceived or otherwise, to property on or near business premises.

Warranty

Accessories and parts bought from Basic Cycles, but not installed by our staff, are not warrantied except at our sole discretion.

Accessory Discounts, Returns + Refunds

We offer accessory discounts for our Standard service bundle and above. Accessories and parts are not included in our labor costs.

New parts + accessories bought from Basic Cycles can be returned for store credit only. Items must be brought back in original, unopened packaging and with buyer’s proof of purchase.

Unusual Service Requests

We strive to provide top tier work at the highest standard possible! Requests for short-cuts or services that go against our professional recommendations must be approved with a written agreement, may be subject to an odd job fee, and will not be guaranteed or warrantied whatsoever. We may refuse to do any job at any time and for any reason, at our sole discretion. Safety is our absolute priority. We know bikes and what they can and can’t do!

Right to Refuse Work

Basic Cycles reserves the right to refuse work on bikes that we feel can’t be made safe within desired budget. This includes, but is not limited to bikes with: inoperable brakes, broken spokes, cracked or bent frames, handlebars, seat posts, cranks, tires, sharp edges and so forth. Bikes that we deem unsafe are subject to a prepaid deposit and must meet safety standards before they leave the shop.
